Welcome to IND250 and 251! We will introduce the class concepts, review the syllabus, and create a small introductory project using simple geometry and materials
Getting Started:
Create a simple 3D container using 3/16" foam core board that contains a continuous side panel
The container cannot have 4 flat sides, can be 3 or more than 4
Create a miter tool to meet the number of sides and the internal angle of the flat panel
Determine the angle you need to cut in the material using your created tool and razor blade
Create a minimal base and hot/CA glue to flat layout walls to create your 3D container

This is an overview of the safety, tools, machines and processes for this class. We are looking at programming simple 2D parts using DXF file format. This will introduce the desktop CNC and using conversational mode on the mills. We will be using simple tooling to work though our first part together.
Getting Started:
Adjust the 2D profile to your liking. We will create some tool holders for extra tooling.
If you are using the Carbide, create a simple toolholder for 1/4 in and 1/8 in bits.
If you are using the Tormach, create a DXF in conversational to create a toolholder for 1/4" and TTS. Use the online PathPilot to build your DXF path with tools.
We will using simple tools to create a part on the CNC. This will provide context for all the operations as we move forward.
IND250:
Using Fusion 360, change the parameters of the design and work in the CAM space to build a toolpath for the Carbide3D Desktop CNC.
Manipulate your design in Fusion 360 to suit your needs. Fit the material chosen.
Import the tool library and post processor for the desktop CNC.
Create a simple toolpath using a 1/4" cutter that outlines the shape of the part and cuts your holes.
As a bonus you can add a simple facing operation.
Sand and finish your part. Measure to compare!
IND251:
Use the PathPilot HUB to import a DXF from Fusion 360. Create your GCODE and then work the conversational tool on the Tormach 1100. Create your tool holder during class.
Manipulate your design in Fusion 360 to suit your needs. Fit the material chosen.
Start the tool library and post processor for the Tormach PCNC1100.
Work to design a full extra tool holder and two in process TTS tool holders for each project.
Use the conversational facing, DXF and drilling to make your parts on the 1100.
Sand and finish your parts. Make sure you add your settings appropriately to the Feeds and Speeds Googloe Doc.

For next class...
Begin your documentation. Suggested - use Google Sites
Finish your toolholder from class. Create GCODE from your DXF file and include in your documentation.
Read Chapter 1, 2, & 3 of CNC Trade Secrets - Harvey.
We are going to continue our parts from the previous class. We are going to check our feeds, speeds, simulations, and machine settings while cutting out our tool holder parts.
Getting Started:
Begin your documentation of the previous class. We did CAM process and Conversational on the machines. Make sure to follow the guidelines to setup your ideas.
Setup your part from last class and work on importing the post processor into Fusion 360. Double check your simulation to make sure it fits the parameters.
IND250: Export your .nc file to a flash drive and setup Carbide Motion for the job! Setup the workholding for the job.
IND251: Export your DXF from the sketch and import into the base computer on the Tormach 1100. Use the conversational to create your GCODE with two minimal operations. Setup your workholding with a sacrificial part underneath to protect the table. Make sure to measure your tool.

For next class...
Make sure that your part is complete. We need to cut out a total of 4 tool holders for class.
What could be improved on our process? What worked really well? Update your CAM/GCODE accordingly...
Add any information to the Class Speeds and Feeds Chart if needed.
Make sure you finish your foamboard 3D project from the first day of class!
Read Chapter 4 of CNC Trade Secrets - Harvey. Check out the Titans of CNC video above!
Be prepared to finish the parts from this class and begin a new setup to move forward. If you need lab time check the lab hours or setup time with me to meet if needed.
We will finish our projects from last class and move forward into building out our tool library. We will develop a class spreadsheet for tools, machines and materials. We will also load this into Fusion and save it for future classes. If time permits we will begin GCODE
Getting Started:
Make sure to continue your documentation! If you need help with formatting let me know.
Finish your foam core project! We will share these at the end of class tinight!
Make sure your projects are updated with the latest version of your CAM/conversational
There will be class time to mill!
